Empowering Educators with AI

“What is prompting? Why is AI helpful for educators?”

Prompting is how you give instructions to an AI tool like ChatGPT. Think of it like asking a really smart assistant for help — the better your question (prompt), the better the response you’ll get.

Example:
Instead of saying “Write an IEP goal,”
try: “Create a SMART IEP goal for a 3rd grader with difficulty staying on task.”

Prompting is how you communicate with an AI tool like ChatGPT. Think of it like giving directions to a very smart assistant — the more specific you are, the more helpful the response will be.

Example:
Instead of saying:
“Write a behavior plan,”

Try:
“Create a behavior intervention plan for a 1st grade student who elopes during transitions and responds well to visual schedules.”

“3 Ways to Use These Prompts with ChatGPT”

  1. Copy & Paste
Open ChatGPT, paste in the prompt, and customize any student info (age, needs, grade). The AI will generate a draft you can edit and adapt to fit your style.

  2. Refine Your Output
After the first response, use follow-up prompts like:
“Make this more parent-friendly” or “Add more detail to the recommendations.”
You can guide ChatGPT like a conversation!

  3. Batch Your Work
Use prompts to quickly draft multiple IEP goals, counseling notes, or behavior supports at once — perfect for busy weeks or caseload crunch time.

“Personalize the Prompt with Your Data”

Make each prompt more powerful by plugging in real student information — like test scores, behaviors, or classroom strategies you've already tried.

Example:
“Write a present level of academic performance for a 4th grade student who reads 45 words per minute (grade-level is 90), struggles with comprehension, and receives small group reading support 3x/week.”

The more context you provide, the more accurate and useful the AI’s response will be.
